ABC has finally cleared a space on the schedule for its drama Happy Town.

The series, a small-town mystery the network is comparing to Twin Peaks, will premiere at 10 p.m. ET Wednesday, April 28. It will fill the spot currently held by Ugly Betty, which will have completed its final season by then.

ABC has ordered eight episodes of Happy Town, which means it will likely run into the early part of the summer.

ABC has locked in its scripted commitments for the 2009-10 season.

The news, which was confirmed to the site exclusively by network and studio sources, includes some adjustments to its previously indicated episode orders.

Newcomers “V” and “FlashForward” are set to film 12 and 24 total hours, respectively, both one episode shy of numbers reported earlier this fall. Come 2010 then the Alphabet will have eight new episodes of “V” (returning March 30) while “FlashForward” (returning March 4) will offer up 14 fresh installments.

At midseason, seven episodes of “The Deep End” and “Romantically Challenged” as well as eight hours of “Happy Town” are on tap.

As for its returning slate, “Grey’s Anatomy” is set to film 24 episodes while “Desperate Housewives” is booked for 23 hours.

The rest of its lineup – including “Castle,” “The Middle,” “Modern Family,” “Cougar Town,” “Private Practice,” “Ugly Betty” and “Brothers & Sisters” – currently have the standard full seasons of 22 episodes.

Rounding out the bunch then are “Lost” and “The Forgotten” with 18 episodes each and “Scrubs” and “Better Off Ted” with 13 episodes apiece.

Sources however were quick to note that the option still exists to order additional episodes of several of the aforementioned series.

I believe I’ve worked out why there are 8 episodes of Happy Town filmed, when it was reported that it had been picked up for 7 episodes — the pilot is 2 hours long and seems to be two episodes in one (much like a two-parter) so to make it seven episodes, it is necessary to have 8 episodes.

Hope that makes sense! Of course, I could be wrong, but without any further announcements from ABC regarding the show, that’s simply my take on things.

There’s an article online by the Northumberland News regarding the filming of Happy Town and parking issues while Town Hall was transformed into the local police station for the show.

Stage 49 Ltd. began filming the ABC series Happy Town during the evening of Wednesday, Oct. 14, and ran through Saturday morning. They’ll resume shooting on the evening of Wednesday, Oct. 21, and wrap in the morning of Saturday, Oct. 24.

The two-hour ABC pilot that was originally filmed in Port Hope last March has been picked up as a six episode mid-season replacement expected to air in March.

Happy Town will chronicle the fallout for a new sheriff and the residents of a small Minnesota town when it experiences its first murder in several years. ‘October Road’ star Geoff Stults plays the sheriff and Amy Acker from ‘Angel’ plays his wife.

In other news, IMDB has added a new episode title to the list (Amy is listed as being in the episode) which suggests that the show may have been picked up for a full season, perhaps? However, I’ve yet to find an official press release from ABC regarding this or the mid-season schedule announcement. Stay tuned!

The complete list of episode titles for Happy Town has now been revealed — as you may know, the series has been picked up for 7 episodes so far — and according to IMDB, Amy will be in every episode! We won’t know when the show will be airing until early 2010 when the schedule lineup has been sorted out. List is as follows;

Just a heads up that IMDB is reporting that, so far, Amy will be in the first 5 episodes of Happy Town — it isn’t a wholly reliable source, but it does seem to be pretty good when it comes to episodes. The episode list is below; I’m rather intrigued by these titles since they seem to be very chronological and almost self explanatory as to what the episode is about — are you excited for this show yet? I know I am!
